Exclusive Dev Diary #2 - Interface

Posted by DEVMajesty2 , 251 days ago Dec 31, 1969 19:00

Hello all!

Today’s post will cover an important aspect of the Majesty 2 interface, namely the “smart control” tool for managing your people.

If you have looked at the latest screenshots, you may have noticed a new menu in the upper-right corner, which consists of a few icons. Let me introduce these icons to you. Each one represents a character living in your kingdom.

This “smart control” interface is very easy to use. It shows:

- all of your characters
- the current level of each character
- the current activity that each character is pursuing at the moment (exploring the area, fighting, relaxing in the tavern, that sort of thing)
- the health level of each character

Double-clicking on a character’s icon will take you directly to that character, focusing the camera on him or her. In addition, you can cast magical spells on characters just by clicking on their icons —assuming you have learned one of the Royal spells. For example, if you know a healing spell, you can heal your characters simply by clicking on their icons, no matter where they are or what they are doing. This is very useful when a hero’s health is at a critically low level (indicated by a flashing red icon), especially if you don’t have the time to find the character on the map.

The menu can show further information as well. For instance, you can use it to access all of your current parties, and quickly switch to any of them as needed.

Nearly all the actions you can perform with the new menu are done with a single mouse click. We strive to make the interface as easy and simple as possible, so that the player can respond quickly to any situation. Last but not least, this menu can be easily hidden or re-displayed, again with a single click of the mouse.

We have done our best to develop the “smart control” menu into a perfect tool, making Majesty 2  much more user friendly, and saving players a lot of the time often wasted on searching the map for their characters.

Gamers have expressed a lot of interest in how the “sacred grounds” work – the locations where you can build temples, how they are captured, and so on. We will reveal these details next time!

By the way, I would like to remind everyone that you can offer your comments here, and you can suggest further subjects for discussion on the official Majesty 2 web forum.

That’s all for now. Talk to you soon!
