U-Wars Interview and Screenshots

Posted by Christophor Rick,

I had a chance to sit down with Arina Akhmatova PR-Manager for Biart Studios in Moscow and then follow up with her in email to complete this interview. The game looks really good and the underwater jetpack gameplay is very interesting. So I thought you should all know more. Plus they were gracious enough to send over some exclusive screens to go with it.

[GDN] U-Wars is a squad-based shooter, how will the player control the squad, will it be in a first or third-person viewpoint or can it be changed during the game?

[AA-Biart] It will be a third-person viewpoint. The control of squad is rather simple. For example like in GOW - to do something: attack, move, stop etc.

[GDN] The game is being developed for PC, Xbox 360 and PSP. No PS3 support at present, is there a specific reason for this? Can we expect possible PS3 development later?

[AA-Biart] PS3 is a rather difficult platform. We can’t promise now that U-WARS will be developed for PS3, but, of course we are thinking about it in the future. The main reason, why we have excluded PS3 - it is a date of release of U-WARS. We plan to finished it in Q4 2009 on PC, Xbox360 and PSP in one time.

[GDN] The most unique and brilliant feature of the game is the underwater jetpack gameplay. How did this idea come about? What was the inspiration for that?

[AA-Biart] A lot of members of our team are divers. If you have dived, you know - that underwater is a very slow environment. Of course there are different underwater scooters and transporters (it will be in the game too). But it’s not very comfortable to use it all of the time. So we have brought in a JetPack (or Rocket Belt) - if it helps people fly overland, why can’t it help our players swim faster underwater? The  JetPack give our players a unique possibility to strafe underwater, swim with a good speed, attack enemies from underwater etc. We think it may be interesting, it is a new and original idea.

The game looks gorgeous, and the gameplay looks like it is going to be innovative and fun. I’ll defiantly be looking into this game more and more the closer it comes to release.

For the record...that last sentence is supposed to say, "I’ll definately be looking into this game more and more the closer it comes to release."
