I was given the opportunity to preview a fun little game developed by Exit Strategy Entertainment, a small firm based in Hamburg, Germany. Pirates of New Horizons is Exit Strategy’s first crack at the video game world and I must say, they are off to a pretty good start. When I first fired up the game, the vivid color palette jumped out at me and for being a "simple" platformer, I was quite impressed.
In Pirates of New Horizons, you play as Annha, a young female pirate who as aspirations to live in a "Barbie-esque" house and snag as much loot as she possibly can. During the course of her travels, she rescues a professor cat that can fly, fights off creepy looking aliens, and generally tries to collect anything and everything shiny. The gameplay is solid with simple controls and clear objectives. There is room to roam around the landscapes and in my short preview, I found my way around the game just fine without wandering aimlessly about. The main hub that I got to experience was fun but since it was a limited preview, I did not get to see a whole lot of the upgrades and gadgets. I will say, for the items I did get to see, the game has a load of potential. I have to give special mention the tutorial because it was one of the better tutorials I have experienced. Everything was lined out nicely as skills were needed and every skill was explained not only in detail, but clearly and concise so anyone could understand it.
