Links is link many colored-block matching games with a couple twists. As with this type of game the blocks fall in from the top in an assortment
of shapes and number of blocks and your task is to match up the same colors to get rid of them for as long as you can.
Chains give you points of course and there are three difficult modes newbie, advanced and geek. The level of difficulty decides the minimum length of chain that must be made. The game is fairly forgiving in that you can make six types of links (colored blocks) and you can have them touching on a side or just a corner for them to create the chains. On top of that you have Universal links which are like wildcards and can be included in any colored chain. There are also Black links that cannot be a part of a chain and are only removed with abilities.
The abilities are a good range of help in the game and allow you to add or remove lines of Links, drop bombs, stop time, remove connections allowing all the blocks to settle and replace the upcoming block with a universal.
All of this adds up to a fairly decent, if not so challenging, colored block matching title. I have logged several hours in the game and have not actually had a game end because I didn’t make chains fast enough. My current longest chain is 13 Links and I maxed out at 89 points in one play. The newbie mode is so not-challenging that I just don’t play it and even the upper levels aren’t that hard.
The game has a pretty cool graphic style and you have options on what kind of links you want (solid, with symbols or neon). The music is a fairly repetitive techno drone but luckily you can disable it in the game, the menu or everywhere. It certainly doesn’t add to the game in the least.
Overall the game is fun even if the challenge level is fairly low. The abilities add a little something to the game. However, it’s still not fantastically interesting even though it is visually interesting.
